WTF VIDEO: Shit Knicks Fans Say 2: Jeremy Lin Edition! [TekniqueTheKingpin*com]

Linsanity has taken foot. The buzz around this baller is incredible. It was said that the media attention in Toronto was similar to an all star or a playoff game. Here is a little something about him:

Jeremy Shu-How Lin (born August 23, 1988) is an American professional basketball player with the New York Knicks of the National Basketball Association. After receiving no athletic scholarship offers out of high school and being undrafted out of college, the 2010 Harvard University graduate reached a partially guaranteed contract deal later that year with his hometown Golden State Warriors. Lin seldom played in his rookie season and was assigned to the National Basketball Development League three times. He was waived by Golden State and the Houston Rockets the following preseason before joining the Knicks early in the 2011–12 season. He was again assigned to the D-League and continued to play sparingly. In February 2012, he unexpectedly led a winning streak by New York while being promoted to the starting lineup. Lin is one of the few Asian Americans in NBA history, and the first American player in the league to be of Taiwanese descent.

His play of recent has spawned a huge cult following. Yes there was some negativity about his rise and of course the race card was drawn, but let’s face it. The NBA needed a story like this after that lengthy lockout. The drama about his rise to fame was almost storybook. The NBA offices are located in New York city and the team in the centre of the basketball universe had fallen on some tough times. Sit back and enjoy the Jeremy Lin experience. The kid so far has proven he’s for real.

HIP HOP CLASSIC VIDEO: King Tee – “Dippin” (1994) [TekniqueTheKingpin.com]

Roger McBride, mostly known as King Tee (formerly known as King T), is an American West coast rapper from Compton, California.

Tee had been around the Los Angeles hip hop scene for many years alongside Ice T and Kid Frost and acted as a pioneer for the genre. In 1988 he made his debut with Act a Fool, considered a classic amongst west coast fans. Tee greatly influenced The Notorious B.I.G. with his deep voice, flow and rhyme style, which Big would at times imitate on his 1994 album Ready to Die. This classic “Dippin” was an ode to the low rider culture that has become a signature of the California hip hop culture

EPMD is an American hip hop group from Brentwood, New York. The group’s name is a concatenation of the members’ name “E” and “PMD” or an acronym for “Erick and Parrish Making Dollars”, referencing its members, emcees Erick Sermon (“E” aka E Double) and Parrish Smith (“PMD” aka Parrish Mic Doc). The group has been active for more than 25 years (minus two breakups in 1993 and 1999), and is one of the most prominent acts in east coast hip hop. Diamond J, DJ K La Boss, and DJ Scratch were DJs for the group. I can’t go too much into detail about these legends in the game so just enjoy this remix

NEWS: Bobby Brown Blames Security For Early Exit From Whitney Houston’s Funeral! [TekniqueTheKingpin.com]

Bobby Brown (R) leaves the funeral service of ex-wife, pop singer Whitney Houston, at the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey February 18, 2012. Houston, 48, died in a Beverly Hills hotel room February 11, the eve of the industry's Grammy Awards. REUTERS/Carlo Allegri

Singer Bobby Brown abruptly left the funeral of his ex-wife Whitney Houston on Saturday, claiming security guards asked him to move several times and prevented him from seeing his and Houston’s daughter.

Brown said in a statement that upon arriving to the service he was moved three times by security, who also refused to allow him to his daughter with Houston, Bobbi Kristina Brown, 18.

Brown and Houston divorced in 2007 after a 15-year turbulent marriage as portrayed in a reality TV series, “Being Bobby Brown” that showed an affectionate yet troubled relationship.

“I fail to understand why security treated my family this way and continue to ask us and no one else to move,” he said. “In light of the events, I gave a kiss to the casket of my ex-wife and departed as I refused to create a scene. My children are completely distraught over the events.”

Brown said Houston, who died a still unexplained death at age 48 one week ago in a Beverly Hills hotel room, would have preferred he attended.

“This was a day to honor Whitney. I doubt Whitney would have wanted this to occur. I will continue to pay my respects to my ex-wife the best way I know how,” he said.

The 15-year period after Houston married Brown coincided with a decline in the quality and frequency of her albums and her public admission of heavy use of alcohol, cocaine and prescription pills. Houston’s fans have long blamed Brown for their favorite singer’s downward spiral into substance abuse.

NEWS: Drake & Common Have Alleged Altercation At Grammy’s, Then Squash It! [TekniqueTheKingpin.com]

Despite speculation claiming Drake and Common had harsh words toward one another at last weekend’s Grammy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles, new reports claim the two hip-hop stars actually squashed recent tensions.

According to new reports, the rappers came face-to-face last Sunday (February 12).

Hip-Hop Wired has learned that Common and Drake actually squashed their beef at the Grammys, clearing up previous reports that the two rappers almost got into a violent altercation. Apparently, both Drake and Common’s entourages happened to be in the same area at the end of the Grammy red carpet, near where artists were being distributed their VIP credentials to enter the Staples Center, according to a source in the latter’s camp. Common felt it was awkward for two men that had exchanged words in song to be in the same vicinity without saying anything to each other. With the two eyeballing each other intensely, Common asked Drake, “What’s up?” Drake responded with a “What’s up?” of his own, and Common tried to approach him with the intent of speaking to the Toronto rapper one on one. (Hip Hop Wired)
Despite some initial confusion, they came together and squashed their problems.

However, Drake’s security and other members of his entourage defensively intervened in his progress. Allegedly Drake said, “Yo, I grew up listening to this dude, what’s the problem?,” while his security was telling Common, “We respect you, this isn’t necessary.” But Common wanted to talk to Drake “man to man,” angered that two rivals would cross paths and just not speak. One of the members of Drake’s crew turned out to be his father, Dennis Graham, who told Common the two artists “need to cut this out, y’all are better than this.” According to the source, the elder Graham’s intervention made Com change his approach, with cooler heads prevailing and the two rappers eventually going off to the side and speaking to each other alone. Holding true to the words he said in an interview moments before, Common and Drake exchanged pounds, and told everyone in their respective camps the beef had been squashed. (Hip Hop Wired)
This week, reports emerged suggesting some blows were thrown during the face-off.

Drake and Common’s beef made its way to the Grammy Awards, according to several reports. According to MediaTakeOut’s “reliable insider,” the feuding rappers got into a brief “fist fight” backstage after exchanging words. After, “plainclothes police” reportedly walked Common back to his seat. Publicist Robert Santini of PKM*BNC tweeted about the alleged event on Sunday night, writing, “@drake and @common had an altercation backstage & @liltunechi” — the handle of Lil Wayne, Drake’s label mate — “had to intervene. This is getting out of hand.” Hours earlier, Questlove tweeted an ambiguous remark on the two’s initial real-world meeting on Sunday. “Uh. Drizzy & Com are seeing each other for first time. No comment,” he wrote. (Billboard)
The same day, Common officially announced their beef was a wrap.

“It was all in the honor of hip-hop, it’s kind of over now. It’s over. So, you know, it was all in the honor of hip-hop,” Common told hip-hop personality Toure. “He said some things to me, so I had to say some things back. I wouldn’t say [he] started it, but I knew I heard something said that I felt like it was directed toward me so, you know, I addressed it. That’s all. But thank God we were able to move forward from it and all is good. We’re all emcees and no matter what your age, when you step in the ring — when you see basketball players playing, they don’t be like, ‘Well, this guy’s [small],’ and basically if you’re playing against me or you’re challenging me at some point, I’m an emcee, I like doing that, I like emceeing. I love it. That’s what I go for.” (FUSE)

SOCA CLASSIC VIDEO: Rupee – “Tempted to Touch” (2003) [TekniqueTheKingpin.com]

Rupert Clarke (born September 10, 1975), best known by his stage name Rupee, is a soca musician from Barbados. He was born in military barracks in Germany to a German mother and a Bajan father, who was serving in the British armed forces at the time. He later migrated to Barbados. He is signed to Atlantic Records.

By the age of nine, Rupee had lived in three different cultures – German, English, and Barbadian.

Spending his first years in England, he was exposed to a contrast of sounds which reflected his parents’ diverse backgrounds: calypso and reggae on the side of his West Indian father, pop and rock and roll from his European mother. He and his siblings would often perform on stage, coming up with all sorts of chants, rhymes and antics to tease the audience. Rupee eventually moved to Barbados in 1985. He had his first major break after winning the Richard Stoute Teen Talent Competition in 1993

In 2003 he released this classic “Tempted to Touch” which also spawned a remix with reggaeton artist Daddy Yankee.
