NEWS: Actress Sanaa Lathan Apologizes For Comments About Kobe! [TekniqueTheKingpin.com]

Recently rumors circulated that Sanaa Lathan was involved with Kobe Bryant prior to his breakup with wife Vanessa. The rumor mill was set ablaze when the actress was seen beside the basketball superstar at the “Watch The Throne” tour. Lathan strongly denied this.  She also added that  the NBA star would never date her because she was black. In an interview with ebony magazine she apologized for her statement

“I probably shouldn’t have said that because I don’t discriminate when it comes to dating. I have dated all races and I believe you should be free to do whatever you want. But I was so annoyed because I was having such a great time at the (Jay-Z/Kanye West) concert and Kobe happen to be standing next to me, and then all of a sudden I was tied to his break-up. That’s absurd, and I tweeted that in the moment, and I regret it. But to each its own. It’s just funny that if it’s written people believe it, and even though I have said I have nothing to do with him, people are still saying when the baby is due?”

In addition to the alleged affair rumors circulated that Lathan was carrying a child for KB24. This also has proved to fiction as well. This just goes to show you that Love and basketball just don’t mix

HIP HOP CLASSIC VIDEO: Eric B. & Rakim – “Microphone Fiend” (1988) [TekniqueTheKingpin.com]

William Michael Griffin Jr. (born January 28, 1968), known by his stage names Rakim (or simply Ra), Rakim Allah, R.A.K.I.M., and The Master, is an American rapper. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential and most skilled emcees of all time. Eric B. & Rakim’s classic album Paid in Full was named the greatest hip hop album of all time by MTV, while Rakim himself was ranked #4 on MTV’s list of the Greatest MCs of All Time. Steve Huey of Allmusic stated that “Rakim is near-universally acknowledged as one of the greatest MCs — perhaps the greatest — of all time within the hip-hop community.” The editors of About.com ranked him #1 on their list of the Top 50 MCs of Our Time (1987–2007). Rakim began his career as the emcee of the rap duo Eric B. & Rakim, who in 2011 were nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Rakim’s music set a blueprint for future rappers and helped secure East Coast hip hop’s reputation for innovative lyrical technique. It’ would be too time consuming to list how many MC’s have been influenced by “The Master”. Happy birthday to the god Rakim Allah. Interesting when the debate of G.O.A.T comes up, Rakim is rarely mentioned…….

NEWS: Ex-Pro Wrestler Andre Davis Convicted In HIV Case! [TekniqueTheKingpin.com]

A jury on Wednesday convicted a former professional wrestler of 14 felonious assault counts alleging he had sex with women without telling them he had tested positive for the virus that causes AIDS.

Hamilton County jurors deliberated over two days before returning the verdict against Andre Davis, of Cincinnati.

Prosecutors said the 29-year-old Davis, who wrestled using stage names including Gangsta of Love, Sweet Sexy Sensation and Andre Heart, violated state law by not telling a dozen sex partners about his HIV status or lying to them.

Davis’ attorney, Greg Cohen, told WLWT-TV he would appeal the verdict. He said the state law regarding HIV and felonious assault is poorly written because it doesn’t require proof that there has been “harm or an attempt to commit harm.”

All 12 of the women who accused Davis testified that they had unprotected sex with him and he either never told them or lied about HIV, which can be transmitted through unprotected sex. The judge, citing medical privacy laws, prohibited attorneys from bringing up whether any of the women was infected with the virus.

Prosecutor Amy Tranter told WLWT that the case involved a great deal of testimony and that jurors considered evidence “step by step.”

“It’s an important case,” she said. “It’s a serious case.”

Tranter had said in closing arguments that Davis should go to prison for a long time, saying the case was about his responsibility to tell the women his test results.

Cohen, the defense attorney, had suggested that Davis’ accusers were promiscuous by having unprotected sex and multiple partners. He also said that a company — not a doctor — told Davis that he was HIV-positive.

The Cincinnati Enquirer has reported that World Wrestling Entertainment told Davis in July 2009 that it wouldn’t hire him because he failed his physical and tested positive for HIV.

Davis’ attorney said earlier in the trial that he didn’t think prosecutors could prove that Davis has HIV.

Tranter said that state law requires those who test positive for HIV to inform their sex partners of that statuses and that she didn’t have to prove that Davis is HIV-positive.

Davis faces similar charges in Warren County, north of Cincinnati.

NEWS: Drake To Perform At 2012 NHL All-Star Game! [TekniqueTheKingpin.com]

Canadian rap superstar Drake will perform at this weekend’s NHL All-Star game at Scotiabank Place.

Drake will perform during the second intermission of the game. The rapper recently released his second studio album, Take Care. His first album, Thank Me Later, debuted at number one on the Billboad Chart in 2010.

Some of his most popular tracks include, “Best I Ever Had,” “Over,” and “Find Your Love.” He was featured on Rihanna’s popular single, “What’s My Name.”

Drake’s performance adds some celebrity buzz to the All-Star weekend, especially for people who aren’t hockey fans. (ctv) It has also drawn a mixed reaction from some as rap music doesn’t really have a connection with the usual hockey fan. Nevertheless, hockey is Canada’s sport and drake is one of the greatest rappers to come out of canada so maybe this can bring a crossover appeal that has never been seen before between Hip Hop and Hockey

HIP HOP CLASSIC VIDEO: Masta Ace – “The I.N.C. Ride (Phat Kat Mix)” (1995) [TekniqueTheKingpin.com]

Duval Clear (born December 4, 1966), known better by his stage name Masta Ace, is a rapper from Brownsville, Brooklyn. He appeared on the classic 1988 Juice Crew posse cut “The Symphony”. He is noted for his high level of rapping skill and for influencing other MCs.

Masta Ace is considered to be a highly skilled and influential MC. Music journalist Peter Shapiro describes him as “one of the great pure New York MCs” and Allmusic describes him as “truly an underappreciated rap veteran and underground luminary”. Commenting on how Masta Ace is sometimes overlooked despite his skill, Rolling Stone says, “even the most avid fan of raw hip-hop lyricism can sometimes neglect to mention Masta Ace alongside hard-bitten champs such as Rakim, KRS-One, Big Daddy Kane, Slick Rick and Kool G. Rap”. The “INC Ride” unified American car culture as a celebration of rims and rides and rap music.

NEWS: Celtics Considering Trading Big 3 For Younger Players! [TekniqueTheKingpin.com]

In 2008, the Celtics went 66-16. Led by Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, and Kevin Garnett, they raised a 17 th cahmpionship banner by blowing out the Lakers by 39 in game 6

The Celtics Have struggled out the gate so far this year. Vice president of basketball operations Danny Ainge was quoted saying this:

“(Red Auerbach) had a chance to trade Larry (Bird) (to Indiana) for Chuck Person and Herb Williams and (Steve) Stipanovich and he had a chance to trade Kevin (McHale) (to Dallas) for Detlef Schrempf and Sam Perkins,” Ainge said Wednesday, according to the Globe. “I was like are you kidding? I mean I feel that way now. If I were presented with those kind of deals for our aging veterans, it’s a done deal to continue the success.” (Boston Globe)

Allen is 36, Garnett is 35 and Pierce is 34, so looking ahead to the future isn’t a bad idea for the Celtics. Pierce holds the most value at this point with two years left on his contract while Allen and Garnett contracts are up at the end of the season. A lot of teams would want a player like Pierce and would give up some young players and draft picks to have him.

Ainge made the right call in publicly voicing his opinion because he’ll not only get a reaction among fans and people around the league, he should also see his players respond in some form or fashion.

Whether that’s in a positive or negative way remains to be seen. Get ready for some crazy rumors to start swirling, as the speculation on the status of Boston’s big three is about to reach new levels.

NEWS: Lil Wayne Identified In Miami Club Fight With NFL Cowboys Star! [TekniqueTheKingpin.com]

Grammy-winning rapper Lil Wayne has been indentified as the “famous rapper” who got into a physical altercation with NFL superstar Dez Bryant in Miami over the weekend.

Initially only identified as a famous hip-hop star, Weezy was later identified Wednesday (January 18) afternoon.

Beach police have no incident reports from the fight, but a source tells a Herald reporter that Lil’ Wayne was involved. The fight happened inside the Fontainebleau’s LIV, the station reports, but details are otherwise sketchy about the altercation. Update 2: David Smiley, the Herald’s Miami Beach reporter, Tweets that a MBPD source tells him that Lil’ Wayne and his entourage were the “famous rapper” involved in the Bryant fight. (Miami New Times)
Additional reporting claims Weezy struck first by taunting Bryant’s on-field and off-field performances.

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant was involved in an altercation with rapper Lil Wayne over the weekend. It’s been reported that the altercation occurred at LIV nightclub in Miami, Florida when Wayne began taunting Bryant about his unimpressive performance this season along with his financial and legal issues. A fight broke out from there. Lil Wayne, nor his camp, have provided a statement yet, but Bryant’s mentor, David Wells, stated that the Cowboys WR had not been arrested, despite earlier reports. (Complex)
The incident took place at the same location Weezy celebrated the Dallas Mavericks NBA Finals win over the Miami Heat.

Someone heckling Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant about his play on the field and his public debt issues prompted the Miami club altercation he was involved in over the weekend. David Wells, Bryant’s adviser, confirmed there was a confrontation involving Bryant at Club Liv, the same club where the Mavericks celebrated their NBA championship nearly seven months ago. “We are aware of media inquiries only and have heard of no documented reports from authorities,” said Rich Dalrymple, the club’s vice president of public relations. (Dallas News)
Wayne is a strong supporter of Bryant’s NFC nemesis team, Green Bay Packers.

“Since this is the first show, I’ll let you know from this show on, you will be able to post questions to our Facebook page or to our site or whatever,” Weezy added. “You’ll be able to post questions up. I’ll get to those questions in some kind of way — I have my teams. I’m not sure if you can tell, but I’m a Green Bay Packers fan, I’m an LA Lakers fan, I’m a Boston Red Sox fan, I’m a Washington Capitals fan.” (“Weezy’s Sports Corner”)

NEWS: Dikembe Mutombo Involved in Major Gold Scam! [TekniqueTheKingpin.com]

Mutombo was in New York on a more personal cause — trying to interest a Houston oil executive in a $10 million deal to buy 1,045 pounds of gold from the mines of eastern Congo, the heart of the conflict mineral trade. If Mutombo had reservations about the apparent contradiction between word and deed, he did not show it. He eagerly explained how he and his family had 4 tons of Congolese gold just waiting for a buyer. Enter Kase Lawal. As chairman of CAMAC, a Houston energy company, Lawal knew Mutombo from the latter’s final days with the Houston Rockets — and he knew how to do business in Africa. Lawal moved to Houston from Nigeria as a young man and built a company that prospered in large measure because of his operations there and in neighboring countries. Better yet, he had millions of dollars at his disposal, a corporate jet big enough to move extra cargo and an old family friend, Carlos St. Mary, with experience trading Third World minerals.

In truth, the deal was an elaborate scam that ended at an airport in Goma with the seizure of the Gulfstream V jet and the arrest of St. Mary and several CAMAC employees, all suddenly facing accusations of money laundering and attempted smuggling. More than 1,000 pounds of gold pulled from the cargo hold was taken away by Congolese officials. Two bags containing $6.6 million in cash were gone as well, into the pockets of a local general whose loyal troops oversee much of the nearby mining operations. To make matters worse, Lawal had to pay millions more to recover his plane and his people. St. Mary said Lawal later told him the entire ordeal cost him around $30 million. Not only had Mutombo initiated the deal, St. Mary said, but he and his family played a key role from the onset, one not revealed until recently with the release of a United Nations report on Congo’s militia activity that recounts the incident.

R&B CLASSIC VIDEO: Boyz II Men – “End of the Road” (1992) [TekniqueTheKingpin.com]

Boyz II Men is an American R&B vocal group best known for emotional ballads and a cappella harmonies. They are the most successful R&B group of all time, having sold more than 60 million albums worldwide. In the 1990s, Boyz II Men found fame on Motown Records as a quartet, but original member Michael McCary left the group in 2003 due to health issues. Currently the group is a trio signed to Decca Records, with members Nathan Morris, Wanya Morris, and Shawn Stockman. The group won four Grammy Awards in the 1990s, and the trio was nominated for two Grammys in 2009. While touring during 1992, Boyz II Men returned briefly to the studio to record this classic “End of the Road”. The single was co-written and produced by Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, for the soundtrack to Eddie Murphy’s film Boomerang. It has been rumored that the song was recorded in only four hours. Now take this into consideration. “End Of The Road” topped the billboard top 100 singles charts from August 15 through November 7, 1992, setting a record for most weeks at number one with 13 weeks, beating Elvis Presley’s 11-week hold with “Hound Dog” / “Don’t Be Cruel”. Presley’s record had stood for 36 years. They dethroned the “King” with only four hours of work!

SOCA CLASSIC VIDEO: Machel Mantano ft. Shaggy “TORO TORO” [TekniqueTheKingpin.com]

For all the “Socaholics” around the world and those who would bare witness. Do you remember the stampede that was created when the chorus hit on this track? It was absolute chaos. You would laugh at the one dude who couldn’t handle it, but feel concern for the lady who got crushed. Machel Montano teamed up with Shaggy (remember him?) to create this classic based on the “Toro” (Spanish fighting bull) which spawned another Trinidad carnival anthem. True to form all carnival revellers who “charged” during “TORO TORO” were fully equipped with their red rags very much like bull fighters. It is a common misconception that the color red is supposed to anger the bull, because bulls, in fact, are colourblind, but in the end, this is all about de Carnival
